Pursuit of Happiness

People get lost when they think of happiness as a destination. Happiness is not a destination. It is a mood, it is not permanent. It comes and it goes, and if people thought that way, then maybe people would find happiness more often.

People always think that someday they will be happy-- when they get that car, that job, that person to fix everything. Happiness is a mood, a condition.. just like being exhausted, or hungry or miserable.

To live in such a way where your personal happiness is dependent on your financial capability of purchasing a car or a material object is depressing all in itself. There will always be a better car or a better job that you won't be able to have--- but to be satisfied in spite of those things is real happiness.

Happiness is not a place, it is not around the corner and not conditional with "only ifs." It is a state of mind, a train of thought, a way of living, a perspective on life, a feeling.

While the outside world can help provide happiness, the true essence of contentment-- real happiness-- is found within yourself. It is acceptance of who you are, how you live, and with whom you surround yourself-- and furthermore it is the acceptance that you won't always be happy
